Naomi Thought the Story Was Over

Naomi's story messes with me. She did not rebel. She tried to survive. A famine hit, so she left Bethlehem, the house of bread, for Moab. Not out of sin, but out of survival.

And yet survival without alignment still has a cost. In Moab she loses her husband, then both her sons. Loss did not just wound her, it renamed her. "Don't call me Naomi," meaning pleasant. "Call me Mara," meaning bitter. Pain rewrote her identity.

But even while she is bitter, God is still working. Ruth is beside her. Boaz is waiting. Redemption is already scheduled.

Naomi thought the story was over. God knew it was only the middle.

God healed her identity before He changed her season, because restoration without healing would have crushed her. She said, "I am empty." The story ends with her holding a child in the lineage of Jesus. That is how God works. He heals the inside before He restores the outside.
